The Kentucky Ornithological Society's Anne L. Stamm Avian Education Fund

Fund purpose:
Anne L. Stamm was an extremely active longtime member of the Kentucky Ornithological Society (hereafter, The Society) who dedicated her life to promoting interest in birds. Ms. Stamm was particularly interested in involving children in bird study. The Anne L. Stamm Avian Education Fund was established in her memory to continue her efforts to educate Kentucky’s youth in regard to its avifauna and to build an interest therein. The following guidelines outline the process for obtaining funds of up to $500 for projects that fulfill the goals of this fund.

Applicants:
1. Any person of at least 21 years of age in the Commonwealth of Kentucky may apply.
2. Members of The Society and teachers at public and private schools within the Commonwealth will receive preference for funding.

Fund Goals:
1. The Fund hopes to increase the knowledge of, appreciation of, and involvement in the avian ecology of the Commonwealth by its younger citizens.
2. The Fund hopes to instill a greater appreciation of avifauna, its place in the ecosystem, and nature in general within the population of Kentucky through its young people.

Application Process:
1. Applications may be submitted for consideration for funding at any time.
2. Applications should be submitted to the chair of the Fund committee.
3. The Fund committee will review the proposal possibly contacting the applicant during the process.
4. Final awards are made twice per year by the Society Board at its spring or fall meeting.
5. The spring meeting is normally the last weekend in April; the fall meeting is normally the last weekend in September; meeting dates, times, and places posted on the Society web site. (http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos/default.htm).

What to Submit:
Complete all parts of the application form. The form may be obtained from the Committee Chair or the KOS Web site noted above.

Reporting Requirements:
1. A one-page final report describing the outcomes must be submitted upon completion of the project to the Fund chair;
2. Presentations of the project are encouraged but not required at a spring or meeting of The Society;
3. PowerPoint slide programs suitable for a silent presentation of the project may be submitted to the committee chair in lieu of personal presentations and are encouraged but not required.

2. Proposal: Attach a brief, but full description of the project. Do not exceed 4 typed double-spaced pages. Be sure to include:
2.1. An overall goal if the project,
2.2. The location of the project,
2.3. The inclusive dates of the project,
2.4. Significant activities involved in the project,
2.5. An expected outcome,
2.6. The number and ages of beneficiaries of the project,
2.7. The anticipated duration of the benefits of the project, and
2.8. Any other information that will improve committee understanding of the project.

3. Budget: Be sure to include the following
3.1. 1 page detailed budget including,
3.2. A brief description/explanation of each budget item, and
3.3. A brief narrative detailing the specific use of the funds.
